Hours:        37.5 hours per week Any 5 days out of a 7 day period.

Contract :    Permanent

Salary:         £30,601 - £35,078 PA depending on       qualifications and experience.

 

RHS Garden Rosemoor is an enchanting garden set in the beautiful Torridge Valley, designed to provide year-round interest and inspiration to all gardeners and garden lovers. 

 

We are looking for a qualified arborist to take on this Team Leader position and manage both the gardens extensive tree collection over 45-acres but also our 120-acre woodland estate.

 

With strong organisation and planning skills to manage this specialist team, all of which underpin the smooth operation of the garden. Good leadership and communication skills are essential, developing and motivating staff and our learners in your charge and influencing the garden team along with always delivering outstanding customer service to our visitors.

 

You should be comfortable operating and maintaining a wide range of horticultural / arboricultural machinery and hold a range of certificates that evidence competency. Given the broad remit of the team, applicants must also be happy to take on a wide range of horticultural tasks and tree risk management surveys when not carrying out tree work.

The section is responsible for tree care within the garden, management of our woodlands, the machinery fleet, garden irrigation, and green waste management. Also helping to further develop and improve the garden with various related projects.

You must have excellent knowledge and expertise in arboriculture along with knowledge of the various specialisms this role is responsible for. Educated to a minimum of Level 3 Diploma in Arboriculture or equivalent, a LANTRA Professional Tree Inspection Qualification would be desirable.

Overview of the Role:

At RHS Garden Wisley we are looking for a skilled and motivated person to join our professional and well equipped arboriculture team. In this role you will be working to manage the mature tree collection in a busy public garden where safety and industry best practice are paramount. This is a varied role that encompasses both aerial and ground works as well as tree safety inspection surveys and pest and disease management. The vacancy within the Arboriculture Team is at either Level I or Level II, depending on your skills and experience.

For the Arboriculture vacancy you should be familiar with a range of standard arboricultural techniques and principles. The following qualifications and experience are essential to the role: 002003 - NPTC Level 2 Award in Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross Cutting, CS0961 - Award for Felling and Processing Small Trees, 002013 - NPTC Level 2 Award in Tree Climbing and Rescue, 002108 - City & Guilds NPTC Level 3 Award in Aerial Cutting of Trees with a Chainsaw as well as a full UK driving licence; you should have proven practical experience in arboriculture and ideally possess a Professional Tree Inspection Certificate.
