About the role

We are looking to appoint an experienced tree officer to assist in the work of a busy tree team dealing with the protection of trees and works to protected trees. The role has arisen following the flexible retirement of an existing officer so is currently offered on a temporary, half post basis (18 and half hours per week) with potential to increase this to a permanent full-time position in the future.

Our tree team is a small group who collaborate and work closely together and alongside other specialist advice providers such as landscape, ecology, design, heritage and contaminated land officers to fulfil not only our statutory requirements, but also to input into policy, advise on planning applications, and inform other services within the Council as well as informing and educating the wider public.

About you

You will have extensive experience of dealing with protected trees and the provision of arboricultural advice to colleagues, elected Members, contractors and the public. You will also have experience of acting as an expert witness at appeals as well as the ability to assist in enforcement proceedings.

Due to the needs of the team we are looking for someone who is able to work independently and who has the ability to pick up our procedures quickly. Knowledge of tree work within the local authority environment would be beneficial.

You will be technically qualified to degree level in arboriculture or a relevant subject or be able to demonstrate suitable experience in the field to the relevant level. A sound understanding of legislation relating to trees and relevant British Standards is also required.
