We are seeking to expand our estate management offer, delivering our ambition to be the managing agent of choice for green space and habitat management. We are looking to appoint a tree officer to survey and map all sites within our portfolio which includes street trees, urban woodlands and large areas of public open space. You will collect information using digital data capture tools, managing the data to provide colleagues with schedules of required tree work and ensuring a robust data trail to fulfil our duties of care. You will have significant experience of carrying out large scale tree surveys and applying risk evaluation methods, prioritising remedial work according to the level of risk and creating schedules of work. The role will cover England and Wales on a rolling basis, with an expectation for the postholder stay away from home during the week where sites are beyond reasonable travel time. All accommodation, subsistence and travel costs are provided. The majority of FPS sites are currently in central/southern England and south Wales. Occasional travel to FPS offices will be required as needed. Our Head Office is in Salisbury, with 12 Regional Offices around the country.
Preferred Skills
Must have skills:
- Significant experience of managing a large-scale tree population including carrying out multi-site tree surveys using Visual Tree Assessment (VTA) methodology and risk assessment tools
- Extensive experience of using digital tree management software both in the field and to create work schedules and reports
- High levels of accuracy and attention to detail when capturing and manipulating data
- Knowledge of legislative requirements and obligations around tree management
- Ability to create planting specifications for a variety of sites and environments
- Wider knowledge of GIS systems (D)
- High levels of accuracy and attention to detail when capturing and manipulating data
- Experience/knowledge of how trees intersect with Biodiversity Net Gain (D)
- Positive and resilient under pressure with a level head
- Able to plan own workstream and schedules independently, adapting to suit business need
- Demonstrable ability to remain motivated whilst carrying out extensive lone-working tasks
- Good communication and interpersonal skills to work with colleagues, customers and community groups, and ability to remain connected to colleagues whilst working remotely
Qualifications
- NQF Level 4 or higher qualification in Arboriculture
- LANTRA Professional Tree Inspection certificate
- QTRA licenced user
- Evidence of ongoing professional development
- Membership of a relevant professional body (Arboricultural Association/Institute of Chartered Foresters) (D)
