About the role:

We are looking for an experienced consultant to join our Arboriculture team working on a broad range of arboricultural projects.

The Arboriculture service is new to LUC, but arboricultural issues are important to much of LUC's work. Work will involve all selected arboricultural service offerings and multi-disciplinary schemes and projects to support nature recovery, climate resilience and carbon management. We are leaders in the conservation and enhancement of rural landscapes, ecological assessment and management, and conservation of the historic environment. We believe there is significant potential to grow this part of our business and to forge strong links with other parts of our work.

The successful candidate will play a role in developing and delivering our growing portfolio of arboricultural projects. You will also work closely with other teams within LUC to support with arboricultural expertise and knowledge on schemes and provide the arboricultural elements in collaborated projects across the company.

Responsibilities could include:

  • BS5837:2012 tree surveys and production of Arboricultural Impact Assessments and Arboricultural Method Statements to support planning applications.
  • Arboricultural Site Supervision/Clerk of Works.
  • Undertaking tree health and safety surveys for risk management and providing tree work specifications.
  • Tree valuation assessments.
  • All tree related aspects of the planning system such as; TPO/Conservation Area advice or applications.
  • Local Council support if requested in regard to advice or outsourced tree officer roles.
  • Woodland management and woodland creation plans, reports and advice.
  • Arboricultural support, help and advice to other disciplines within LUC.
  • Some contribution to bids and tenders where required.

You will be part of a friendly and dynamic team working alongside LUC's ecologists, historic environment specialists, spatial analysts, landscape designers and planners, and environmental Planners, committed to high quality professional work with a strong emphasis on delivering sustainable solutions.

A full-time role would be based on 37.5 hours Monday to Friday. However, LUC has a strong track record in flexible working and we have been recognised for our flexible working culture, so we are happy to discuss a range of flexible working options for this role including part time hours (minimum 30 hours per week) if desired.

Salary: £25,000-£32,000 FTE (Dependent on experience)

Preferred Skills

About you:

You will have an understanding and be able to provide advice on all aspects the arboricultural service. You will be driven and enthusiastic to help support the growing team and have ability to be motivated while working individually or as part of a team.

Essential

  • A minimum of Level 3 Arboricultural qualification (or equivalent) Excellent tree identification skills.
  • Experienced in arboriculture including delivering BS5837 development related surveys and tree health and safety surveys.
  • Experienced in the use of AutoCad or similar.
  • Sound understanding of environmental legislation, policy and practice across the UK.
  • Knowledge of the planning system in regard to trees.
  • Excellent report writing skills and writing of tree work specifications for a range of audiences.
  • Skilled at planning and organisation, delivering accurate and high-quality work to agreed deadlines.
  • Enthusiasm to help develop LUC’s Arboricultural service and help promote the other disciplines offered by LUC.
  • A full UK driving licence and availability of a vehicle fit for traveling to sites for survey work.

Desirable

  • Lantra Professional Tree Inspection Certificate.
  • Experienced in GIS.

Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK.
