We are Barnes Associates Ltd and we are an Arboricultural Consultancy based in North Yorkshire, working throughout the north of England and occasionally further afield.

We are looking for both an Assistant Tree Surveyor and a qualified Consulting Arboriculturalist / Surveyor to join and become part of our team.

Salary to reflect experience and qualifications and is subject to bonus payment scheme.

Both roles offer a diverse variety of Arboricultural surveying and tree assessment which will include undertaking surveys and preparing reports in relation to:

• BS5837:2012, Surveys, Impact Plans, Tree Protection, Method Statements and Site Monitoring.
• Individual, Site or Population Surveys and Tree Risk Assessments
• Further Investigations of Tree Defects and Tree Stability
Experience in the use of Surveying packages and or AutoCAD will be an advantage for both roles, though full training will be provided.

Barnes Associates Ltd are one of the few companies in the North of England that offer and undertake a wide range of advanced investigations of tree defects such as:

• Sonic and Electrical Tomography
• Static and Dynamic Tree Stability Testing
• Tree Vitality Testing
• Thermal Imaging
• Root Detection Using Ground Penetrating Radar, Sonic Root Detection and Air Excavation

Interest in these advanced tools will be an advantage for both roles - (full technical training will be provided).

Preferred Skills

We are looking for:

Arborists who are keen to move forward and want to progress and ideally have a sound practical background in arboriculture and or tree work.

Assistant Tree Surveyor Role

• A minimum of Level 3 in Arboriculture or above

• Good working knowledge of Tree, Pests and Disease identification
• Good knowledge of VTA
• A full UK driving licence
• Good computer skills in the use of Word and Excel - Basic use of AutoCAD a bonus but not essential
• Qualified in accessing a tree using a rope and harness/aerial rescue operations
• Flexible working.

Consulting Arboriculturalist / Surveyor

• A minimum of Level 5 (FdSc) (Or nearing completion with industry experience)

• A good understanding of arboriculture and its associated laws, Tree risk assessment experience, trees and development (BS5837), TPO legislation and tree management.
• Experience in producing detailed plan-based and written reports
• Good knowledge of VTA and tree biomechanics
• Good working knowledge of tree identification, fungi, tree pests and disease identification
• A good understanding of building trees in reaction to structures and subsidence
• An understanding of Tree Valuation
• A full driving licence
• Excellent computer skills in the use of Word and Excel - use of AutoCAD a bonus.
• Flexible, hard-working motivated and be able to work as part of a team or alone
• Qualified in accessing a tree using a rope and harness/aerial rescue operations

Flexible working hours, along with hybrid working (office/home) as mutually agreed with very occasional nights away if contracts are at distance.
