About the job

We are currently looking for a climber to join our team. As a climber you will be expected to undertake skilled arboriculture operations in accordance with NPTC/LANTRA requirements and all operational tree work to BS 3998 (2010) wherever achievable using current and safe working practices. This position is for an experienced arborist who are hardworking, enthusiastic, punctual and self-motivated.

The work is varied and interesting, ranging from small pruning jobs through to large scale tree removal projects both residential and commercial.

Main duties / Responsibilities

You will be responsible for carrying out a range of duties which will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Work on both domestic and commercial property gardens, and landscapes, school sites, highways, countryside sites, public rights of way and other public open spaces.
  • Maintenance of trees and hedges carrying out operations such as, but not limited to, crown lifting, crown thinning, crown reduction, formative pruning, limb removal, coppicing, hedge trimming and removal of epicormic growth.
  • Felling and removal by straight felling or dismantling.
  • Carry out arboricultural operations within the tree canopy.
  • Emergency tree works assistance to meet out of hours emergencies resulting from adverse weather conditions when required.
  • Operation of a range of arboricultural equipment including woodchippers, stump grinders, self-propelled machinery and attachments such as skid steer, MEWP, tractor, digger.
  • Carry out maintenance to equipment.
  • Daily personal climbing and rigging kit checks.
  • Driving of company vehicles and machinery.
  • Completion of appropriate documentation i.e., daily vehicle checks, HAVs weekly monitoring, LOLER compliance.
  • Be able to read and understand arboricultural reports, site surveys, site plans, schedules of works.
  • Receive instructions from the Supervisor or Director relating to the tree works programmed.
  • Ability to communicate with staff, clients, and the public.
  • Ability to work well within a team.
  • Mentor less experienced staff to promote future development of the company and staff.
  • Ensuring compliance with site specific policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring that health and safety standards are adhered to, and risk assessments are carried out.
  • Undertake any other duties that are deemed necessary by management.

Essential

  • The right candidate should ideally have at a minimum CS30, CS31, CS38, CS39, CS40 & CS41 tickets (or level 2 equivalent)
  • Level 2 Manually Fed Woodchipper
  • Full Driving License
  • Appreciation Of Health and Safety Legislation
  • Accurately complete documentation in relation to health and safety, resources etc.

  • PA1 & PA6 qualification
  • First Aid certification
