Tree Officer Jobs Shropshire

Shropshire Council is seeking to recruit a tree surveyor to join its Tree Team and contribute to the important work it does in maintaining and enhancing the tree resource of Shropshire.

This is an excellent opportunity to begin or continue a rewarding career in tree survey and assessment, within a local authority context. Your work will involve driven and on-foot surveys to assess the health and condition of trees across the length and breadth of the beautiful county of Shropshire. You will assess trees on Council sites and facilities and trees in other ownerships, notably along the adopted highway network, as appropriate to meet the Council’s duty of care and other legal obligations.

You will make recommendations for necessary tree safety and other works, liaise with contractors and provide arboricultural advice to colleagues, Councillors, the public and others as required.

The skills, knowledge and experience gained within this role are also relevant and transferrable to the private and voluntary sectors.

You will be self-motivated and capable of arranging your day-to-day workload, to meet the timescales and deadlines of the planned and reactive tree survey programmes.

You care about trees and the natural environment and value the many benefits they bring. You are enthusiastic, adaptable and have a positive ‘can do’ approach, with a commitment to pushing yourself and supporting the work of your team. You have good written and verbal communication skills and are comfortable dealing politely but firmly with tree-related issues, enquiries and complaints, in accordance with Council policy and practise.

Because of the nature of the role, you currently live in, or are happy to relocate to, the county of Shropshire and you are capable of and enjoy working outside, under a variety of weather conditions and terrains.
