City Tree Officer (Specialising in TPO Review) 3 year fixed contract

We have an opportunity for a Tree Officer to join a team of dedicated and experienced tree officers and in-house tree surgeons to protect, manage and maintain Southampton’s important tree stock. As part of our Green City Charter we are undertaking a review of our Tree Preservation Orders and require an experienced arborist to lead on the review.

You will be responsible for:

Leading on the review of all Tree Preservation Orders in Southampton City

Develop and deliver a Southampton Tree Warden scheme

Report back to Green City Steering Groups on updates and initiatives

Providing advice to a range of customers on proposed developments, tree preservation orders and health and safety tree surveys

Support the Arboricultural Manager in educating people about the type of trees in the city and promoting the benefits of the tree stock across the city.

Provide support to the aim to increase revenue income through commercialisation of the service

To be successful in the role you will hold a relevant arboricultural qualification to a minimum of a national qualification framework level 4 or equivalent experience to undertake the job and be able to demonstrate experience of Tree Preservation Order legislation and process. You will require excellent communication skills and have a high level of IT literacy. You will also need to demonstrate your ability to write technical reports, briefings and deliver recommendations to a wide range of audiences.

This is a 37 hour per week, 3 year fixed term, full time contract which falls within Grade 8 of the Southampton City Council’s pay grades. This will equate to an annual salary of £30,451 – £33,782

The Southampton Tree Team is a one stop shop for all matters relating to trees in Southampton. We provide a comprehensive service from surveys to surgery and inspections to insurance claims. Our unique team set up means that we are able to manage our trees from planting through to felling, all in house.
