We are looking for a reliable and skilled Tree Surgery Groundsman / Arb Operative to join our professional team at Canopy Cuts, part of the Syndicate Trades Group.
You’ll work alongside experienced tree surgeons on a range of residential and commercial projects across Oxfordshire and nearby counties.

This is a hands-on, physical role involving chainsaw use, chipping, rigging, and site setup/cleanup.
We’re looking for someone hardworking, safety-conscious, and passionate about tree work — not landscaping or gardening.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist climbers with rigging, lowering, and rope management.

• Operate and maintain saws, chippers, and tools safely.

• Clear sites efficiently and maintain high standards of tidiness.

• Load, transport, and process timber and green waste.

• Represent the company professionally with clients on site.

Qualifications (Essential / Preferred):

• NPTC CS30 & CS31 (chainsaw maintenance & felling) – required.

• Woodchipper ticket & First Aid +F – preferred.

• Towing licence (B+E) – an advantage.

• Aerial Rescue (CS38) – desirable but training available.

Preferred Skills

• Minimum 2–4 years’ experience in arboriculture or tree surgery support.

• NPTC / City & Guilds Qualifications (or LANTRA equivalent):

  • CS30 / 201–202 – Chainsaw Maintenance & Cross-Cutting (required)

  • CS31 / 203 – Felling & Processing Small Trees (required)

  • CS38 – Tree Climbing & Aerial Rescue (highly desirable for rescue cover)

  • CS39 – Chainsaw from Rope & Harness (advantageous if progressing to climber)

  • Woodchipper Operation (Unit 222)

  • Stump Grinder Operation (Unit 221) (advantageous)

• Emergency First Aid at Work + Forestry (+F) certification (required for all site staff)

• Manual Handling & PPE / PUWER & LOLER awareness training (essential for legal compliance)

• Experience assisting climbers with rigging, lowering, and rope management.

• Competent use of chainsaws, chippers, and power tools to HSE standards.

• Full UK Driving Licence (B licence required; B+E towing preferred for trailers/chippers).

• Understanding of safe felling zones, drop zones, and communication signals.

• Strong teamwork, reliability, and focus on maintaining safe, tidy worksites.
