Arboricultural Consultant Job in Edinburgh

We are seeking an ambitious Arboricultural Consultant to join our dynamic team, covering a wide range of projects across Scotland. The role is home-based, allowing flexibility in your work location while supporting clients on-site across various regions.

Key Responsibilities:

Your principal role will involve conducting the BS 5837:2012 survey and reporting range. You’ll work closely with developers, planning consultants, and architects to ensure arboricultural best practices are implemented in line with current regulations. This will involve the following tasks

  • Conduct BS 5837 tree surveys for planning applications, including detailed data collection and tree mapping.
  • Undertake tree risk management surveys and tree safety inspections.
  • Prepare comprehensive high-quality written and CAD arboricultural reports for planning purposes and tree risk assessments.
  • Offer expert advice to clients on tree preservation, planning, and statutory
  • Liaise with clients, developers, planning officers, and other
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and best practices within arboriculture.

Ensure all work is in line with relevant standards and regulations

Preferred Skills

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum Level 3 Arboriculture qualification.
  • Lantra Professional Tree Inspection qualification.
  • Minimumtwo years of professionalexperience in arboriculture, including BS 5837 surveys tree safety inspections.
  • Ability to identify and understand tree pest and diseases, genera and species.
  • Good knowledge of tree preservation regulations in Scotland.
  • Proficiency in using GIS based tree survey software, Microsoft Office suite and CAD software.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to liaise directly with clients
  • Full, clean driving licence and willingness to travel across

Desirable Qualifications & Experience:

  • Tree Climbing & Aerial Tree Rescue qualification.
  • Knowledge and understanding about ecology and protected species.
  • Experience/training in quantified tree risk assessment methods (e.g. QTRA).
