About the Role: We are seeking a Senior Arboriculturalist to join our dynamic team, covering a wide range of projects across Scotland. The role is home-based, allowing flexibility in your work location while supporting clients on-site across various regions.
You will be responsible for conducting BS 5837:2012 Tree Surveys, preparing Arboricultural Impact Assessments (AIA), creating Arboricultural Method Statements (AMS), providing on-site supervision, and offering expert advice to clients. You will work closely with developers, planning consultants, and architects to ensure arboricultural best practices are implemented in line with current regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct BS 5837 tree surveys for planning applications, including detailed data collection and tree mapping.
- Prepare comprehensive Arboricultural Impact Assessments (AIA) to assess the effects of development on existing tree populations.
- Develop Arboricultural Method Statements (AMS) to outline protective measures for trees during construction.
- Provide on-site supervision during construction to ensure adherence to tree protection plans and AMS recommendations.
- Offer expert advice to clients on tree preservation, planning, and statutory requirements.
- Liaise with clients, developers, planning officers, and other stakeholders.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and best practices within arboriculture.
- Ensure all work is in line with BS 5837:2012 standards and other relevant regulations.
Preferred Skills
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum Level 4 qualification in Arboriculture or a related field (e.g., Arboricultural Association Technicians Certificate, HNC/HND).
- At least 4 years of professional experience in arboriculture, including BS 5837 surveys and AIAs.
- Comprehensive understanding of BS 5837:2012 guidelines and experience in their application.
- Strong knowledge of tree species, diseases, and tree preservation regulations in Scotland.
- Proficiency in using tree survey software and GIS mapping tools.
- Full, clean driving licence and willingness to travel across Scotland.
Desirable Skills:
- Professional membership with the Arboricultural Association or Institute of Chartered Foresters.
- Experience in delivering expert witness services.
- Knowledge of ecology and habitat surveys related to tree preservation.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
