WSP are working with Hertfordshire County Council in a single, integrated team. This truly collaborative approach sees WSP and Hertfordshire colleagues working side by side to collectively deliver the full highways service to local communities.

This is a key role in the Highway Operations team supporting Hertfordshire’s Vision to be the County of Opportunity by delivering safe, reliable journeys, sustainably, whilst balancing the needs of the asset, network operation and customers, using the resources available.

Acting under the direction of the Highways Operational Manager and Assistant Highways Manager the main areas of responsibility will be:

Producing safety-based tree surveys with recommendations
Support in administering the tree maintenance contract and be involved in tree inspections and assessing the degree of hazard posed by trees
Provide expert advice to other groups across the highways service, as well as partnerships, Council Members, senior officers, communities, the media, Cabinet and Panels on policies, strategies and programmes
Dealing with and responding to customer and contractor enquiries

Preferred Skills

Level Four qualification in arboriculture/Professional Tree Inspector qualification or equivalent degree in a related subject
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to influence peers.
The ability to converse with members of the public and provide advice accurately in spoken and written formats
Experience of Ezytreev and GIS mapping software
Ability to work unsupervised and make decisions on a day to day basis
Ability to drive and undertake site visits
Experience of working in a political and/or highways environment desirable but not essential
Ability to work well in a team environment and develop relationships with internal stakeholders
Excellent organisational skills
Microsoft Office

Accuracy, attention to detail and timeliness
