Trees & Hedgerows Officer Wanted - Doncaster
About the job
Arboricultural jobs in South Yorkshire
We are seeking to recruit a temporary Trees & Hedgerows Officer to join the Planning Policy & Environment Team within our Planning Services Department for a 12-month fixed-term contract. This is a career graded post and appointment will be based on your relevant experience to date.
You will be responsible for undertaking a comprehensive review of our existing Tree Preservation Orders to make sure our Orders are up-to-date, valid, and legally enforceable. The Project will require extensive site work undertaking resurveys of our Orders working alone in the field and without supervision. The post holder will also be responsible for taking the appropriate desk-based steps to vary or reserve our Orders, including revoking any existing Orders, and all in line with the relevant legislation and guidance, with some support from our Legal Department for the latter stages of the process. There may be occasional wider Local Planning Authority protected tree work as well but the main focus of this post is to lead on the above project.
This is a demanding role in terms of the workload and the emotive and often polarised opinions that trees create. You must have a recognised qualification in arboriculture. You are required to have a sound knowledge of trees and of the legislative framework surrounding Tree Preservation Orders. As above, the post requires regular site visits. A full valid driving license is essential. Access to the Council’s pool car fleet is provided.
