In Environmental and Leisure Services, the team are engaged in the direct maintenance and management of the authorities’ environmental assets and Green Infrastructure including parks, cemeteries, public open spaces, trees, public rights of way and countryside sites. The team are also responsible for the governance, protection, project management and enhancement of the green infrastructure and overarching environmental policy linked to environmental infrastructure. Team managers cover grounds maintenance, green infrastructure in the urban and countryside areas and as part of City Services have a key role in the development of sustainable transportation and the development of leisure opportunities within the City and County. This is an exciting time to join the recently restructured Environment and Leisure team.
Our focus is to ensure the effective maintenance and management of all Council owned tree stock, and the provision of all relevant arboricultural advice and policy to members of the public, work colleagues, Councillors and any other interested parties.

About the job

As the Arboricultural Assistant you will support on a number of work areas including; the preparation, implementation & management of the tendering process and contract management of the cyclical corporate tree inspections by external consultants or In-house tree professionals. To assist in the review of inspection results, identify and manage subsequent specialist Arboricultural contractor works, in line with Council Standing Orders, for all service areas. You will be responsible for client & customer responses in relation to tree matters, assisting in the monitoring of spend against the arboricultural budget and the development & upkeep of a computerised system to record and manage the arboriculture function for Council owned trees.
You will report to the Trees & Woodlands Officer and work closely with the Arboricultural Officer to manage the council owned tree stock. You will be expected to work closely with other team members, Councillors, Cabinet Members and a range of contractors, external organisations and public stakeholders to deliver an excellent service across the City.

About the person

Enthusiastic and confident, you should have a degree standard qualification or equivalent along with experience of working in the Arboriculture Industry. You should have experience in a related area of work in a contract environment and membership of the Arboricultural Association would be an advantage.
You are open-minded and task focused, with an organised and analytical approach to your work – and you are used to maintaining attention to detail while working to tight deadlines. You are self-motivated and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and appreciate the importance of customer care. You have a creative approach to problem solving with excellent IT and data analysis skills.
