Murdoch Wood Ltd is looking for an experienced arborist / tree surgeon to join our small but growing team that carries out most of its work in Perthshire and Angus.

The job will include a variety of domestic and commercial work from climbing, MEWP work, ground work including rigging, machinery operation (Avant and chippers mostly), low impact forestry work including felling and dealing with windblown trees. 

The job is for a 40 hour week Monday to Friday. Usually 8.30am - 4.30pm.

Salary dependent on experience.

Some of our work will include emergency tree work and the occasional weekend and night shift may be required. (Enhanced pay for antisocial hours). 

Because we are a small team, everyone is required to play their part in maintaining the kit that they use. 

Preferred Skills

You will ideally have at least 3 years of experience of climbing and you should be competent in aerial rescue and rigging. 

Essential qualifications : 

Up to CS32 or equivalent 

Up to CS39 or equivalent

Emergency first aid at work with Forestry module

Desirable qualifications : 

Ipaf 1b, 3a, 3b.

CS40 and CS41 or equivalent 

Multiple Windblown trees or equivalent

Experience working in a commercial setting would be of benefit. 

Must be a motivated individual who can work well as part of a team. You must be observant and have a good attention to detail and be safety conscious. 

Experience operating machinery (Avant, chippers and tracked mewp) would be a benefit.

Full driving licence is essential with experience towing and driving large vans preferred. 

You must be ready to work as part of a team. You must be an advocate for good, professional tree work and care about the work you carry out. If you want to top and lop trees this isn't the job for you.

- Removals by climbing and MEWPs. 

- Pruning of trees : crown reductions, reshapes, crown cleans, re-pollarding and deadwood removal

- Low impact forestry : dealing with windblown trees, thinning and felling woodlands

- Storm damage and hazard tree work 

- Tree inspections

- We also do some site clearances, stump grinding and the odd crane job.
